DESCRIPTION
The National Western Stock Show Kick-Off Parade is held in Downtown Denver the Thursday before the opening week of the show. Volunteers who want to help can sign up at the Scheduling Event.
LOCATION & CHECK-IN PROCEDURE
Parade Volunteer Check-In may be done at the Volunteer Center or at the Parade staging area. For those who Check-In at the Parade staging area, it will be necessary to write your name in manually on your time “manual time reporting form.”
A Stock Show Parade Volunteer Ride Coordinator will be available in the Volunteer Office beginning at 7:00 AM on Parade day to arrange transportation to and from the Parade staging location. Volunteers may also drive directly to the Parade staging area at Coors Field Parking Lots A & B just north of Coors Field (Park Avenue West/23rd Street and Wazee). Directions to the staging area will be provided in advance.
DUTIES
- Sign-up during the Scheduling Event. Make sure you do not sign up to volunteer in any other area on the first Tuesday of the opening week of the NWSS.
- There are various areas where Volunteer assistance is needed the day of the Parade. Review the descriptions of the various assignments that are available (see below) and select the area(s) of most interest to you. Parade Marshal hours will run approximately 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Areas include:
- Volunteer Entry Check In: Volunteers will be checking-in the Parade Marshals and the entrants and directing them to their respective areas for work/set-up.
- Signage/Hay Bales: Parade Marshals will be placing signage and hay bales in the staging area and picking them up after the Parade. They may also assist with signage/flags along the Parade route.
- Staging/Cleanup: Parade Marshals will coordinate/stage the entry units in the staging area and assist with stepping off the entry units into the Parade line. Parade Marshals will assist with picking up trash in the staging area, making sure all items are returned to the Volunteer Office, etc.
- Hospitality/Food: Parade marshals will set-up donuts and coffee in the Staging Area and coordinate lunch for Parade marshals. They will also assist with the Stock Show Dignitaries at the oxford Hotel Reception.
- Volunteer assistance in the Parade staging area is necessary from the time the Parade entrants begin arriving until the last entrant leaves for the Parade route. Be sure to wear appropriate attire for being outside the entire time. Also, wear appropriate footwear for being on your feet the entire time.
- Parade volunteers will have the opportunity to ride on a flatbed trailer, which is the end of the parade. Be sure your duty is completed before getting on the trailer.
- Parade entrants will return to the Parade staging area at the end of the Parade. Transportation for Volunteers returning to the Volunteer Office will be provided after all assignments have been completed.
