PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Fall 2008

Dear Friends:
With the economy in turmoil we thank you very much for your continued support!

As we approach the kick-off of our 103rd National Western Stock Show, Horse Show and Rodeo we could not be more thrilled about this exciting, entertaining and educational event. Our vision for the National Western is to be the world’s premier center for America’s western heritage, and with this benchmark we have created several new opportunities for 2009 including: organizing our first annual Western Heritage Week in the Yards; introducing a new Children’s Activity Pavilion; and expanding our already successful Patron Table program. Additionally, you are sure to find Kevin McNicholas’ overhaul of the Club a refreshing change, and we thank Kevin.

In May, a long-range planning strategic task force was put in place to study the opportunities, challenges and constraints that will influence the future development of National Western programs. The task force has made no recommendations, but believes that we should develop a business plan for the next four to five years.

We remain committed to continue as industry leaders in animal welfare with new policies in place at the 2009 National Western Rodeo that will focus on much restricted use of electric prods and stronger fines for jerk downs in the tie down roping. With the help of our Animal Care and Use Committee we will do everything possible to ensure that every National Western guest enjoys his/her experience.

As you plan your trips to the 2009 show we encourage you to be an ambassador for your own western heritage. Pick up the phone and invite your friends, family and children who may not have experienced the fun of our great show. Come and witness our western legacy and be a part of the world’s premier livestock show, horse show, rodeo and trade show.

Kudos to staff for “plugging away,” and doing everything possible to organize a great show and to streamline our operation. As January approaches, watch for schedule updates and further information at NationalWestern.com.

Sincerely,

Patrick A. Grant
