2008 Stock Show Breifs

For a third year, black cowboys and cowgirls headline the National Western’s Martin Luther King African-American Heritage Rodeo. Champion black rodeo athletes compete in the Pony Express relay, ladies’ steer undecorating and more traditional rodeo events. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 15 at 6:30 p.m. only. Reserved seats start at $11.

Watch the top ranch horses in the world compete for the title of world champion. More than 30 working Quarter Horses compete in ranch trail, working ranch horse, ranch cutting, ranch riding and confirmation January 16 and 17 in the Coliseum. And, don’t miss the world championship finals January 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Events Center.

Take part in a free tour through the barns of the National Western Complex while the tour guide answers all your agricultural questions. Tour times and locations are still to be determined. Check times and meeting locations when you arrive at the Complex.

National Western visitors are invited to feed special displays of animals in Children’s Ranchland each day. Check posted schedules when you arrive at the Complex.

For the first-time, the National Western has added evening entertainment in the Stadium Arena. Join us for American Quarter Horse Association Test Rides on Jan. 12, an extra session of mutton bustin’ on Jan. 15, a performance by the Jerry Diaz Family on Jan. 17, and dog fly ball on Jan. 23.

Enjoy interactive fun for the entire family in the Ames Activity Pavilion. National Western visitors can participate in pedal tractor pulls and stick horse rodeos. Plus, there will be horseshoe tosses, dummy roping, karaoke and other contests for prizes.
