2010 Junior Market Show Information & Updates

The NATIONAL WESTERN STOCK SHOW Will Implement the Following Changes
For the 2010 National Western Junior, Junior Market and Prospect Shows!

** These changes are in addition to the General Rules and Health Requirements for the Show!

JUNIOR MARKET SHOWS IN GENERAL:

    1. The participant and immediate family (father, mother, brothers and sisters only) in whose name the animal is owned, and accepted entry is acknowledged, will be allowed to wash, groom and fit the animal after arriving on National Western Stock Show grounds.  Participant must be present during any feeding or fitting.  Anyone found in violation of this rule may be subject to immediate disqualification without recourse.  Family members will be issued wrist bands from the Livestock Office.
    2. If an animal gets away from exhibitor two (2) times during the class, the exhibitor will be excused from the class and disqualified.  If an animal is late once the class has entered the show ring, that exhibitor will not be allowed to enter the class and will be disqualified.
    3. All sale animals will be drug tested.  All non sale animals are subject to random testing.
    4. The Primary Care & Quality Assurance Form will be required at time of entry.  An additional drug testing affidavit will be signed at time of check-in.
    5. Exhibitor must be present for weigh-in and check-in.

JUNIOR MARKET BEEF SHOW:

    1. The ownership/nomination date is changed to September 15.
    2. The entry deadline is moved up to November 1, 2009.
    3. We no longer require the bill of sale to be notarized or a photograph with your nomination.
    4. Each exhibitor may enter 4 head (steers or heifers) and bring 4 head.
    5. There will now be a Blow ‘n Go Showmanship Contest the night before the Junior Market Beef Show.  This will become part of the Premier Exhibitor Contest.
    6. Junior Market Heifer class (approved last year) as part of the Junior Market Beef Show.  Will compete for Grand Champion Junior Market Beef.
    7. Nomination are closed as of September 15..

JUNIOR MARKET SWINE SHOW:

    1. DNA testing was changed from blood to a hair sample!
    2. The “Water Only” rule will be strictly adhered to and enforced.  No additional compounds of any kind will be used.  Also, no glitter on sale pigs and oil only on feet.  Any swine found with additional compounds will be immediately disqualified. (This rule is same as last year)
    3. One bag of shavings will be included with every entry.  Additional shavings must be purchased from the National Western Feed Office.  NO outside shavings will be allowed.
    4. REMINDER!!  The Junior Market Swine Show is a purebred show with registration papers required by the NSR/NJSA and Team Purebred.
    5. Nominations are now closed. Applications no longer accepted.
      *As of May 20, 2009 corrections have been made to the pure bred portion of the letter that was mailed to all Junior Swine drawing applicants.

JUNIOR MARKET LAMBS:

    1. The ownership date has changed back to November 1, 2009, same as the entry deadline.
    2. The reweigh variance will be 5%, not 5 lbs.
    3. No muzzles will be allowed at anytime.

 JUNIOR MARKET GOATS:

    1. The ownership date has changed back to November 1, 2009, same as the entry deadline.
    2. The reweigh variance will be 5%, not 5 lbs
    3. The exhibitor may enter up to 4 goats but may only bring 2.A Premier Exhibitor Contest was added to the Market Goat Show.

 OPEN PROSPECT SHOW:

    The show will go back to 2 days, heifers on Friday, January 22, 2010 and steers on Saturday,  January 23, 2010.
