Junior Market Swine -IMPORTANT CHANGES

Applications for swine entries should be postmarked by United States or Canadian Postal Services (no postage meters accepted) by August 1, 2008

In preparation for the 2009 show the following is information for the Junior Market Swine entry process. This consists of an application process and drawing for entry into the show, thus eliminating the problem of having purchased an animal and not making the entry cutoff. If you are successful in the drawing then you may buy your animal and make entries.
  • To be eligible to exhibit at the National Western Stock Show, the youth must be nine (9) years of age but not nineteen (19) years of age as of January 1, 2009 and formally enrolled and a member in good standing in 4-H or FFA. You must also comply with the National Western Stock Show Rules and Regulations and Junior Livestock Show Rules and Regulations that are in the Premium Book which will be printed in September, 2008.

  • Applications for the drawing must be submitted to the National Western Stock Show Livestock Office along with a non-refundable $5.00 per animal charge. The application must be postmarked on or before August 1, 2008. No postage meters will be accepted.

  • Participants may submit application for up to four swine for the draw. If you are successful in the draw, you will only be allowed to enter the number of animals shown on the draw application (maximum of (4) four) but you will be allowed to bring and show no more than two (2) of the animals that were entered.

  • Only one (1) application per individual.

  • Important change: this change pertains to purebred classes.  If you entered your swine as a purebred you must have breed registration papers to show in the purebred classes. To exhibit in purebred classes exhibitors must be members of the National Junior Swine Association or Team Purebred Junior Association.  (For membership information, contact the NJSA @ 765-463-3594 or Team Purebred Junior Association, 765-497-3618.) Further information will be on the website nationalwestern.com approximate June 1, 2008.

  • The National Western will conduct a random drawing by computer before the end of August and notification of results will be sent.  No notification will be made by E-mail, internet or telephone.  Best estimated date of notification, by mail only, will be by September 1, 2008.  Those that are successful in the drawing will also be sent a specific entry form and DNA kits which must be returned, along with the entry fee of $20.00 per animal entered, by November 1, 2008.

  • We will draw for 700 animals.
