Bright colors of bay, black or chestnut, mixed on white in large patterns are the markings of the American Paint Horse. This is a registered pedigree breed, not merely a color designation.

Favored, even by the Comanches for speed and tenacity, this versatile breed shows at the National Western Horse Show in pleasure, English and western, as well as in roping, reining and team roping, where the usability of the horse is judged.

This American Paint Horse Association-sanctioned show is January 11-13, 2010.
