Beginning
with one foundation sire, the Morgan is a horse noted for its strength,
pure gaits of walk, trot and canter, and stylish appearance. The Morgan
is used for English pleasure, where a great deal of action is displayed,
yet can come into the show ring calmly pulling an antique buggy full of
passengers. Western pleasure is another division in which the versatile
Morgan excels. The fieriest of the breed are shown in park classes, where
brilliance is more important to the judge than manners. The National Western
also showcases the Morgan Horse as the ultimate carriage horse. Shown
to antique vehicles, exhibitors can see the style of transportation prevalent
in our pre-automobile days. Carriage classes are judged on the turn-out
of the horse and exhibitor, as well as manners of the horse.
