For additional information select a breed or class:

In these classes, the junior rider is judged on his or her style and ability to control the horse. Emphasis is placed on the correct use of seat, hands and technique. The goal of this competition is to encourage the development of the various skills necessary to become a capable horseman. The horse is not judged or rated and any suitable horse may be ridden. The rider is judged showing at the walk, trot or jog, and canter or lope, depending on whether the class is English or western. Riders may be asked to perform individual workouts at the conclusion of the rail work. Competition is tough as riders have practiced long and hard to show at the National Western. You will see three different seats or styles of equitation: saddle seat (English, show style); hunt seat (English, showing both on the flat and over fences) and western seat. There are preliminary classes based on riders' ages with a championship for each style.
