The
beautiful Arabian is probably the oldest of the light horse breeds, and
the foundation for many other breeds. Known for intelligence and loyalty,
the Arabian is smaller than the Saddlebred or Morgan, and traditionally
has a classic head with a dished profile and large eyes. Shown with a
natural mane and tail, you can see the Arabian in English pleasure, western
pleasure, hunter pleasure and native costume classes. Typifying the horse
you would take on a ride through a park - high action and extreme motion
of the horse are discouraged. Important are the ability to stop, back
and walk off on a loose rein, without becoming excited. Versatility of
the Arabian horse is exemplified at the National Western, shown by both
amateurs and professionals.
