One of the most popular cattle shows at the National Western Stock Show,
the pens of prospect steers and heifers have evolved from the early feeder
cattle shows at the National Western, where carloads of 20 or more cattle
were brought to compete against the best club calves in the nation. Today,
groups of three or five calves, ranging in age from 9 to 11 months, compete
for the coveted grand championship, and the bragging rights that go along
with it. And, junior exhibitors from across the nation come to select
their market beef project for the upcoming show season.
