Coors Western Art Featured Artist
Don Stinson
The featured artist for 2012 Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale is Don Stinson.
Known for his panoramic vistas that explore the physical and cultural landscapes of the West, his most recent work examines the dynamic, elemental and creative forces that have shaped and continue to shape the terrain. Don Stinson’s inspiration emanates from the elements of earth, air, fire and water in combination with man-made structures within the environment, all of which supply him with the visual contrasts between human pursuits and the sublime expanses of the western landscapes. His encompassing views reveal much about our shared myths of the West, notions of progress, individual creativity and the subsequent surrender to the elements themselves.
Stinson received his B.F.A. from Colorado State University and his M.F.A. from Tufts University/School of Fine Arts in Boston. He was the recipient of a Colorado Council on the Arts Director's Grant and his work is placed in the collections of the Denver Art Museum and the Art in Embassies Program in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He has been featured both in extensive solo and group exhibitions in Colorado and Texas with prominent showings at the Nicolaysen Art Museum, Casper, Wyoming and Artist Space, New York.
Don Stinson’s painting; “More Than a Feast for Crows” has been selected as the featured piece of the 2012 Coors Art Exhibit and Sale and will be showcased by National Western in its permanent collection.
